When you build your home custom the beauty is that you are the architect and the designer. You get whatever you dream up. That’s where the term “dream home” comes from.
The possibilities are endless. A great way to start is to make a list of the things you would like to be a part of the plan, bring them to the meeting with your builder and they will help you incorporate them.
Clients sometimes need a little bit of a starting point in the idea realm, so we put together the top inclusions we love to help you get started.
A Sand Room
(Up north they are called Mud Rooms, but well, it’s Florida).
If you have pets or kids a sand room is a great idea to keep the rest of your home clean and encumbering less wear and tear. This area is often placed at a side entrance or by the pool area. It keeps down the dust and dirt from being tracked all of the home. If you have a very outdoorsy dog you could even include a small spray down station (also great for dog bathing!) or rinsing off sandy feet. Hooks to hang wet bathing suits, umbrellas, and raincoats, and cubbies for shoes and more.
Under Cabinet Mounted Outlets
If you are going to take the time to create a beautiful tile backsplash the last thing you want is the flow interrupted by wall outlets. If they are mounted under cabinet they are still easily accessible but give a far cleaner look. Additionally, outdoor outlets and media connections should be thought of ahead of time as well. Outdoor appliances, power tool use, and more need to be considered. No one likes tripping over ugly cords. Built-in speakers are a lovely add in.
A No Cabinet Kitchen
I know the first thought is… “No cabinets? Where will everything go?” The answer is ultra-deep drawers. It is far easier to see and reach everything when they are mounted below. Installing deep drawers keeps the kitchen organized and the space tidy.
A Smart Thermostat
Save yourself money from the get-go. A programmable thermostat helps keep you comfortable year-round without constantly messing with the buttons.
Chutes
If you build a home with a second story two ideas clients love are trash and laundry chutes. Why walk up and down the stairs with bags and baskets? Especially as you age it can become a tripping hazard. Just dump the laundry and trash down the chute to its respective location and you are all set!
